Firefox 3 Official release 17th June 2008

And if you download it on that day, you will be helping Firefox leap into the Guinness Book of Records…

Firefox has always been our browser of choice due to its speed, stability and its slew of add-ons which made it far more versatile and useable than IE7.

Various beta versions and release candidates of Firefox 3 have been around for a while now and the final release promises to provideĀ  “increased security, blinding speed and cool new features that will change the way you use the Web.”

The pre-releases have also allowed website and add-on developers to prepare for the new platform, so upgrading should be fairly painless.

In an attempt to corner an even greater share of the browser market, Firefox have coupled their release date with a plea for help to enter the record books for the most software downloads within a 24 hour period. Firefox 2 allegedly clocked a handsome 1.6 million downloads when it launched and hopes are that Firefox 3 will far exceed that number.

Microsoft are also working on their own new release of Internet Explorer 8, currently in beta, but there is no official word on release yet.

If you are already a Firefox fan, (or a disgruntled IE user) then make sure you put the 17th June in the diary.
